Community

At Old Noarlunga Primary School, we are passionate about our people, our place and our purpose. We work with our community to foster resilient and respectful learners.

We seek opportunities to connect our learning to the real world. The Onkaparinga River National Park is a short walk from the school gate, and our students use it — as part of their learning, and through community projects that outlast them.

Bush School

Students from Reception to Year 2 take part in an annual Bush School, led by our Junior Primary teaching team: the mud kitchen, loose parts play, and hikes in the nearby National Park to watch birds and spot wildlife.

Year 3 to 6 students take part in a multi-day Bush School, led by outdoor education providers alongside our teaching staff. Activities include kayaking, hiking, exploring the life of the river, and building cubbies.

Tree planting

Each year our Year 3 students work with the Friends of Onkaparinga Parks to collect seed, propagate native plants and plant trees in the Onkaparinga River National Park. This work is re-establishing a wildlife corridor that will connect the river to the bushland on the hilltops.

SEEDS

Old Noarlunga Primary School has been admitted into SEEDS — Stewardship of Endangered and Endemic Seeds — a collaboration between Green Adelaide and the SA Seed Conservation Centre at the Botanic Gardens. Students take part in the practical conservation of rare and threatened native plants, including a seed orchard established on the school grounds.

Youth Environmental Leaders

Our Year 4 to 6 student leaders take part every year in Green Adelaide's Youth Environmental Leaders program, building relationships with students from schools across southern Adelaide and leading their own sustainability projects here and in the local community.
